Urgent Appeal: Free Imprisoned Afghan Journalists Sanam Kabiri

Sanam Kabiri, prominent Afghan women’s rights activist, has strongly demanded the release of detained journalists:
“For Shakib Nazari, for Hamid Farhadi, for Bashir Hatef, and for all journalists who are in detention — for truth, for justice — do not stay silent. Share this message and take part in the campaign. Together we can be their voice.”
For Shakib Ahmad Nazari, for Hamid Farhadi, for Bashir Hatef, and for every journalist currently held in Taliban prisons:
Do not remain silent.
These brave reporters are imprisoned simply for doing their job — telling the truth. Shakib Nazari was sentenced to three years for cooperating with a Japanese media outlet. Hamid Farhadi received a two-year sentence for alleged “propaganda” and is held in Bagram Prison. Bashir Hatef and others are suffering serious deterioration in their mental and physical health due to harsh detention conditions.
Journalism is not a crime.
We join Sanam Kabiri’s call and urge the international community, governments, the United Nations, the European Union, human rights organizations, and press freedom groups (Reporters Without Borders, Amnesty International, Committee to Protect Journalists) to take immediate action:
• Demand the immediate and unconditional release of Shakib Ahmad Nazari, Hamid Farhadi, Bashir Hatef, and all detained Afghan journalists.
• Pressure the Taliban to stop the repression of independent media and respect freedom of expression.
• Ensure urgent medical and psychological care for those whose health is declining in prison.
Together, we can be their voice.
Share this widely. Raise awareness. Silence is complicity.
Do not stay silent. Our collective voice can bring them home.
